Studio 1535 Problem!

Every so often, the touch-button that raises volume becomes "stuck". I can only temporarily get rid of the problem by shutting down the computer. After I turn the computer back on, it makes a very loud beeping noise then proceeds to work, for the most part, normally. Also, my mouse stops every so often in the middle of moving it. Please help! I don't want to have to send my laptop in if this is fixable.

Thanks for all of your help.

In case it matters, I'm running Vista Home Premium on my Dell Studio 1535. I'm fairly certain I have all the BIOS and the drivers updated.

I explain 1 way to fix these issues here.  Also the auto eject issue and others caused by the misbehaving capacitive function buttons.  some disassembly required.  you can either just disconnect the flex cable inside or remove it and partially tape it as I show in the photos.  Taping certain contacts and re-installing will keep the LED indicator lights functional but disable the crazy buttons that make your computer useless.

Yes,

Download the firmware ISO I posted a while back.  Here is the URL:

http://jacobbaron.net/files/FW7_X0D.ISO

1) Burn to CD/DVD

2) Boot from that disk you burned to reflash the firware drivers for the media panel

3) Shutdown

4) Remove battery and power cable, then hold power button for 30 seconds

5) reinstall battery and power cable, power up

-Follow these steps and you will never have another problem with it.  No disassembly, tape, or soldering required.

This works! Thank you so much. I'll repost on this thread if the problem comes back, but ever since trying this it has solved the issue completely. Here's a bit of a walkthrough on step #2 for anyone who isn't familiar with booting from a disc (like I was):

-Put the CD or DVD into the disc drive, shut down the computer, turn it back on

-When the dell logo pops up press F12.

-(This is step 3) When the command prompt screen is done (It will say "pass" many times and then the blinking line waiting for you to type something will pop up) you can just touch the power button and it will shut off immediately, or try typing 4 8 15 16 23 42, but that didn't get me anywhere.

Then continue with the steps listed by KRYPEBUD

I updated a Studio-1535 from BIOs version A02 to A06, and that's when the problems started.  Stumbled upon this thread.  Partially read through it, and people were talking about BIOs updates.  Then it dawned on me to completely reset the BIOS.

Powered down, unplugged external power, removed the main battery, took the back panel off, pulled the CMOS battery, waited for a few minutes, reinstalled the CMOS battery, reinstalled the back panel, installed the main battery, plugged in external power, entered the BIOS, set the time, shut down, rebooted, and the problem was resolved.

PROBLEM SOLVED!
