Stuttering/Buzzing Sound During Audio/Video Playback

Hi,

Recently I've been having some problems playing back any sort of media.  At regular intervals the audio will freeze/skip for a second and make a loud grinding noise, then resume.  This happens with music, streaming videos, games, pretty much everything.  If I'm watching a video or playing a game, the screen will freeze for a second, then resume.

I'm using an Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 64-bit, SP1.

I've tried everything I could think of, updating all my drivers, reinstalling codecs, running anit-virus, and cleaning out my system.  I've found that sometimes the lag corresponds to spikes in my DPC latency, but sometimes they don't, and I can't find out what's causing the spikes.  I've tried most of the solutions here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/19142484/19265470.aspx#19265470 ,but nothing seems to have helped, and I'm getting a bit desperate.

Any ideas?

Pony500,

You're Not Screwed if you have the DELL Win7 Restore Disc, That has Windows 7 On it, as a matter of fact you would want that one over a Windows 7 OS Disc from a Retailer because it is designed for your system. It will reinstall Windows and all the Drivers, if it is the Older Win7 SP1 restore disc, then it will not have that "Corrupted" Driver from MS on it, That didn't come out till late spring this year.

yesmonkee,

The Driver We had available a while back was removed from Intel, by Intel, apparently because of such high hits on that particular link, when you click on that link your talking about now, it comes up "Unavailable" and only gives them the choice of a PC Scan, which with DELL PC's it is MUTE to even try, you get the "Unrecognized" and Unknown Errors on the Scan due to DELL's Wrapping of the System.

Thanks,

Thanks for the explanation Mick.  And I guess for a lot of you, thanks for nothing Intel.

How did you uninstall Dell DataSafe?  It wants me to upgrade and there is a constant reminder. With at least 25-30 error messages of it not running properly. Please help!

I would think you could just uninstall it--that thing drove me nuts on my other computer, but it wasn't installed on the refurbished one that I got, but I'm sure you could uninstall it.  I have Carbonite and 3 external hard drives, so for me, I'm covered and don't need Dell Data Safe.

Tonnieb,

The Correct Way to Uninstall the Dell DataSafe is to remove it through the Add/Remove Programs for WinXP, or through Programs and Features in Win7.

bobycat, for me, for some reason, the stutter/buzz occurs more when listening to online stuff, like You Tube, Netflix or online MP3's, although it occurs when listening to anything with sound, but when I was trying to demonstrate it for Dell support, I turned on a Netfix movie.

If you turn off your firewall, what protects the computer then?

Not really.  When I was having that issue, it was virtually every audio and video file I played.  Run some bids from YouTube.  You'll see soon enough whether it's 'resolved' or not....
