xp drivers inspiron 1564

Hello,

Just  wondering if anyone has successfully loaded xp drivers on the any of the new inspions '64s with the i3/i5 processors?  I would like to purchase one, but do not see drivers available on dell's site?

Thoughts?

Here are the drivers -

You will need to put these on floppy or use nLiteOS.com to integrate the iastor drivers into the installation media.

Hello Everyone, I have dell Inspiron 1564,core i3 processor, windows 7 Home premium (genuine). I suspect that it's startup time is comparatively slow. It's around 40 seconds before login screen and around 10 to 15 seconds after login screen........Could anyone plz compare it with their Dell insprion 1564,core i3, Windows 7 Home Premium. Thanks in Advance,

Hi, I am having the same startup problem with a new dell insprion 1764, core i3 with windows 7 home premium. It takes at least 40 seconds before login screen and then 30seconds after login screen, this is really annoying my 8 year old xp pc boots so much faster. I am wondering what is causing this slow start up? I haven't installed anything new on the laptop, it has the standard wirless card and bluetooth and has ati radeon mobility 4300 video card (could there be driver issues?) Anyone else in the same boat?

...Yeah I have the same specs..even the same Graphics card..Maybe it's some problem with the core i3's or their startup is actually like that..but I thought it was supposed to be faster than its predecessors..strange and yet very annoying..(if you find a solution please do share it with me cause I have tried every possible way to speed it up but failed :S )

Well, here is what I can tell you about the 1764 and the Core iSeries ... hopefully it will help.

I had a 1764 with Core i5/Win7x64 (don't have it any more - above) and I now have an HP dv7-3165 with Core i3/Win7x64.  Factory installed, the Dell took slightly more than 35 seconds to boot to the login screen and 20 seconds to login, the HP takes slightly less than 35 seconds to boot to the login screen and around 15 seconds to login.  After a fresh install of Win7x86, the Dell took around 16-18 seconds to login too.

Okay by fresh install do you mean installation from the Dell Windows 7 CD that comes with the laptop(but it still has those Dell things installed in it) or some other Windows 7 Cd.And please tell me that after the install did it take overall 16-18 seconds to startup( from the power turned on till the desktop screen)...or took 16-18 seconds after you inserted the password.

Thanks.

By fresh install, I mean I installed it from a retail DVD of Windows 7 Ultimate - not the Dell DVD.  It took 16-18 seconds after entering my password.  I think 16 seconds is a bit unreasonable from power-on to Desktop ... for now :)

As I said earlier, I did get XP installed on the 1764 (albeit without all the drivers before I gave it back), and it was NOT significantly faster booting to the Desktop after logging in, but it was faster getting to the login screen - around 25 seconds.

And how much time did it take "before" login when you freshly installed the Windows 7....??...If the problem was not coped with after fresh installation do u think it is some problem with the hardware?

I have a 1764.  The part that is confusing me is everyone is saying use the floppy drivers but no one says which one to use.  I have had several sites say ICH10M but I downloaded about 7 different packages and not one has that listed.  One site suggested PCHM but didn't specify which.  Could someone that has been successful let me know which version to use with floppy install.  I would greatly appreciate it.

I have found the ethernet driver.  Anyone have a quick link for the video driver and sound?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:  I forgot to specify I am using XP Home SP3.  If you need any extra info let me know.

SATA/AHCI (hard drive) - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17883&lang=eng

As XP only knows how to use third-party RAID/storage drivers delivered through floppy medium, they are called floppy drivers.  Without a floppy drive in this system, you will most likely need to use nLiteOS.com to integrate the driver into the installation files.  Above is the file, and nLite is the method I used to install Windows XP.

I am using a USB floppy drive but still the confusion is, which driver exactly do I need out of that file.  Here is the list of drivers available from the above file you linked.  Which one did you guys use that worked properly?  Since I have cloned a drive from another machine and will be trying to get it to work in this laptop I am trying to minimize the amount I have to experiment, as getting that drive to work properly will be a challenge in itself.

Intel(R) ESB2 SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH8R/DH/DO SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH9R/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) PCHM SATA AHCI Controller 4 Port
Intel(R) PCHM SATA AHCI Controller 6 Port
Intel(R) PCH SATA AHCI Controller

Thanks again.

It is the iaStor driver ... I believe I used this one ...

iaStor_8R9R10RDOPCH = "Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO/PCH SATA RAID Controller"
