XPS 15 9530 Intel HD Graphics 4600 driver crash

Hi,

I have a XPS 15 9530, with a fresh install of windows 10 and the latest drivers from dell support site.

I'm having a lot of problems with the Intel HD Graphics 4600 card, lot of driver crashes.

As soon I start Visual Studio, or Spotify or other app the driver crash notification appears:

In the eventviewer the following error appears: Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered. (EvenID 4101)

I tried to remove the device from the Device Manager incl. the drivers and install them again, but the problem is not solved.

Some suggestions?

For those of you still having problems with the Intel HD drivers after installing Windows 10 please download but do not install yet the chipset, Intel HD 4600 graphics driver, and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750m drivers from the system.

Once downloaded, please go into programs and features and uninstall each driver, chipset, Intel HD and Nvidia GeForce and restart the system. Once rebooted, install the chipset first, Intel HD and the Nvidia drivers last. Please reply back here with any errors and if the problem continues or not.

Thank you

Real Fix: Just want to share for everybody that hae a XPS 9530 model and is STILL waiting for a solution.

Just found a great article how to update the HD 4600 driver not from the Dell website (still has the 26 september 2015 version) but from the Intel website:

http://www.windowscentral.com/how-install-intel-beta-graphics-drivers-surface

Although this article is about the MS Surface, it worked great for me!

Important is to dowload the ZIP file from Intel, not the EXE file

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25489/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen-

Just follow the (very well written by Daniel Rubino) 12 step guide to manually install the driver.

And then... be happy! Good luck guys, cheers.

Same issue here.  Multiple reinstalls hasn't helped.  What's frustrating too is that we can use Intel's drivers for this graphics card, or at least I haven't been successful in doing so.

What are the chances that Dell updates these drivers anytime soon?  If I'm not mistaken they are simply Windows 8 drivers.

I think that Dell's driver is customized for that model with the Nvidia + Intel setup so that's why you are blocked from installing the generic Intel Windows 10 drivers, even though we could do so in Windows 8.1. Not hopeful that Dell will issue an updated driver anytime soon.

Indeed, although on the Dell support site the drivers are for Windows 10, the error message I attached says Windows 8.

I have performed the steps outlined in your post and it appears to be working.  I will repost if I experience any issues.

Terry,

Were you able to reproduce the driver crash yourself?

Yes.  After about a day of continuous use, my computer would slow down, the keyboard and mouse would appear unresponsive and the video driver would crash with the same error message reported in this thread.  Over the past couple of weeks, the issue has become more frequent.  I'm hoping your solution will fix the problem.

Hi Terry, thanks for making the suggestion. Quick question: how do you uninstall the chipset drivers? There does not seem to be a way to do so, as it's not in Control Panel - Programs and Features. Please advise.

Thank you for the reply, I want to test your suggested solution, but just to be sure, in the Device Manager, what is the Intel Chipset which should be deleted/uninstalled?

I tried the suggested solution, deleted from the Device Manager both Video Cards and the Chipsets (drivers included) but I'm still getting the error (often)

Regarding the chipset drivers just look for anything mentioning Intel Lynx Point chipset in programs and features, you may not see it there and that is fine, but if you do please uninstall it along with the video drivers.  Restart the system and then reinstall the chipset (even if you didn't see it in programs and features) the Intel HD and Nvidia drivers.

After reinstalling the drivers I would like for you all to test the system both under battery, and with AC adapter attached, when using the AC adapter I would like for you all to go into Nvidia control panel under 3D settings and make sure that the system is running under high performance, and go into Windows and make sure that you are using the "high Performance" power plan. Just to determine if power settings have anything to do with these errors.

Please report back here with the results, if the errors continue to happen and if they happen more when the system is running under battery or AC adapter.  I will be reaching out to some of you that continue to have problems and we may look at trying a service.  Since this problem only started after upgrading to Windows 10 it is more likely a driver problem but I would like to make sure that the problem isn't defective hardware.
