@SurgHosp thanks for getting in touch about this. I'm sorry to hear of the issues that you are experiencing with multiple systems and stress fractures.

I believe we have two issues here that could be connected. When it comes to faults involving fractures, cracks, damage etc each one needs to be looked at individually to determine if it is damaged or through product failure / manufacturing defect.

For this system that has the cracked screen, does the crack start at the same location as the hinge stress fracture you mention or is it in a completely different area of the screen?

I would also like to get more info on the other systems with the hinge / chassis problems you are encountering, I'll drop you a private message.

Well,  Dell never did give me any satisfaction for this.   So I ordered a screen on my own and tore down the laptop to replace it.    I was curious what I would find with the hinges.   I wanted to see where the problem really was.   I tore everything down and what I found was a metal plate that the hinge was attached to was bent.   Bizarre!   This metal plate was epoxied to the bottom cover.   So....is the metal plate faulty??   Not strong enough to take the back and forth of the hinge?

Like I said earlier.... This laptop doesn't get a lot of hinge usage.   It may move back and forth an inch or so.   I would say that the metal plate is made of faulty material.

Did you ever get this resolved?  I have a latitude 3510 that was purchased in AUG.2020 and sounds like I have the exact same problem.  No physical damage to the laptop and after 9 months the hinge broke and caused the screen to break.  They are telling me this is not covered under warranty, that it is normal wear and tear and not part of the warranty.  As I current owner of three Dell computers and 2 laptops purchased in the last 9 months, it is very concerning.

I'm having this same issue. The hinge came away from the case, through the screen, smashing it. As a long time loyal Dell user of laptops and desktops, for them not to own this gross manufacturing failure is very poor customer service and more than enough for me to move away from them. Unfortunately I just bought another one to replace this laptop before I realized what the cause was. Has anyone got any helpful reply from Dell, where they owned the poor material selection, design and/or workmanship that caused so many failures? I would be more than happy to replace the case and screen myself but at a part cost of almost $450, if it was even in stock, which it is not, feels like way too big a risk knowing the same issue could happen again.

I was wondering if anything ever came of this,  I have about 4 different Latitudes all with the same broken hinge tearing up the screen issue.  Our company uses these and it seems with the 3500 and 3510s that it is starting to become a common issue.  I found this thread when I started to investigate the issue more and wanted to see if any answers were given from Dell.

Yeah, I am really not happy with Dell laptops either. Seems like problems with hinges is a common problem. Although I think the problem is actually that the hinge is too tight and puts too much pressure on the outer casing and that the outer casing is made of cheap materials.

Sad because i had always been a HP fan, but thought I'd have a change, only to be disappointed.
