Dell Command Update v5 Unable to retrieve System inventor information
Latitude 5420
I was experiencing some weird behavior from my laptop that hinted at a need for a driver or BIOS update and went to Dell Command Update to address. Unfortunately, I got the "Unable to retrieve system inventory information" error. So I uninstalled (completely and using Revo) the program and reinstalled the most current version. However, the problem persists. The online driver scan on the Dell support page also does not work anymore either. I have restarted the laptop several times. Nothing seems to work.

Same issue with my XPS 13 9310 2-in-1.
Dell Command Update 5.0.0,
Last BIOS update 2023-08.15.
SMBIOSBIOSVersion 2.19.0

When I tried to reinstall it I got a message that an uncompatible program "
Dell Command | Update Windows Universal Application"
was installed. I did not install it but I found it in and deleted it but Dell Command | Update still fails with Unable to retrieve System inventor information message.

Same with Alienware x15 R1, all usual tricks do not work. Opened incident with Dell, still no acceptance is a global issue or when it will be solved.

I noticed this problem today (August 25. The Dell Update app has worked on my desktops until very recently. I used it to install a video driver on August 17.

Same problem here today Dell XPS 15 9500 - downgrading to v4.9 didn't work either

@jdeignan100@comcast.net I also noticed the problem with Dell Update on 8/25. My last successful update was on 8/23.
I spent an hour + with Dell Support team last night trying different things to fix the problem, but nothing worked. Ultimately, they said the problem was on their end and that they would be working to fix the problem in the next 24 to 48 hours.

I Founded The Older Versions Of The Dell Update App In (C:\Windows) Folder And Installed The 4.9.0 Ver , Its Working Without Any Problem.

Alienware Update v 4.9.0 on an Alienware M17 R5 AMD... The system did a BIOS update this morning as well.

Same issue started also on 25 august on the Latitude 5420 and Latitude 5530 devices.
Also downgrade to 4.9 is not working..
Please fix this asap because we cannot update the devices anymore.

we have the same Issue with the following models:
XPS 13 9320
Precision 5680
Latitude 7400
sometimes version 4.9.0 works, but sometimes it doesn't
