Keyboard Backlight

Dell G16 7630

Dell G16 7630

The keyboard backlight is not working on my computer. I've updated my BIOS and insured that the correct keyboard setting are on. I also have tried the 'Fn' and 'f7' button combination which also hasn't worked.

I understand that this feature on the computer is not important. However, I paid a lot of money for this computer and would like to use all features that this computer provides.

Thanks for all the help!

If you do not see the keyboard backlight flash on when it's in powerup self-test, call Dell for warranty repair.

Both G16 7630 keyboard options (cherry mechanical and regular) have RGB controllable backlighting.  So, in addition to the BIOS and Function keys controlling it, there's an app to control the colors, etc.  Since your BIOS is up-to-date, it's possible the app is the problem: Alienware Command Center.

I'd see if you have the latest version of Alienware Command Center on Dell's Support Drivers area for the Dell G16 7630 which seems to be 6.5.9.0.

Regardless of whether you have the latest version or not, I'd probably uninstall it and re-install it.  I would use the Full Installer version.  Someone with a similar issue on the prior version G16 7620 here - note the problem resolution was software, not hardware.  Resolution here (reddit - "Dell G15 / G16 Backlit keyboard stopped working - Solved") was uninstalling Alienware Command Center and re-installing it (Full Installer).
