yes there is only 1 storage, but I'll insert a second disk sata port. there is a sata port in the picture, but I need a cable to connect to the disk.

Welcome to the Dell Community  @ozgiray

Try using "Chat" to find the part number.

They have internal and restricted sales tools to help them find parts.

Best regards and good luck,

Hello prunoki,

The Latitude 5501 supports only one drive. Below are the ones and are depends on the configuration you ordered,

  • 2.5-inch 5400rpm hard-disk drive
  • 2.5 inch 7200rpm Hard-drive drive
  • M.2 2230 solid-state drive
  • M.2 2280 solid-state drive

Hi,

Could you solve this? I have exactly the same problem, I bought a 5501, I thought it would be straightforward to install a second SSD, but it is not due to the publicly not available parts.

Thanks

Unfortunately, I cannot confirm this as it was never shipped with 2 drives neither tested.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer. Does that mean that you cannot connect an additional SATA drive to the inner SATA connector? The notebook won't see it?

Thanks,

@DELL-Cares

Did you even look at the manual???

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/04/latitude-15-5501-laptop/latitiude_5501_sm/removing-the-hard-drive?guid=guid-472a416c-4066-4e8a-9705-c67a08b8532e&lang=en-us

There are 2 HDD/SSD internal connectors.

And the manual has SSD and HDD Remove/Replace procedures???

Welcome to the Dell Community  @ozgiray

I would say you could add a second drive as storage???

Not sure as a boot drive???

Check to see if the hardware is there.

I can check my warehouse and if I have a 5501 I will test it in the morning.

Best regards,

U2

I bought the product in the link below and it works super. 2 hdd at the same time and works fine. I would recommend.

I mean it works very well. I use the OS from the M2 SSD. This is disk 2.

What does it mean 'works super'?

Was you able to boot second OS from the second SATA drive?

not necessary. I used it by cutting the part inside.

hi there,

I will try to ask different way.

I have Windows10 preinstalled on M.2 drive. This is first drive. My laptop came with this drive by default.

Also there's an opportunity to put second drive (there's a quite specific SATA connector and a bay for second drive around).

You purchased special cable for that. Now, can you boot from the second drive? In case when two OS are preinstalled on both drives.

Same here in Brazil.

Is it possible run in dual boot mode? What is the correct sata cable to buy?
