latitude 7400 display brightness not working

Hi - I bought a latitude 7400 about a month ago with windows 10 pro. Yesterday display brightness stopped working. The buttons on function key work showing the bar moving up and down, but this has no effect on the display brightness. Similarly if I go to settings -> display and can move the dot in the bar but again there is no change on display brightness. Laptop is new, no changes to software. Any ideas of how I could fix this? Thanks,

Cristo7,

Have you updated the bios? If not click here and update. Also, click here and see if the information in the link helps resolve the issue.

I am also having this same problem. My brightness was set to max after updating and it hurts my eyes. I did this.....Control Panel > Device Manager > Display Adapters > Intel HD Graphics 4000 > Driver > Update Driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick. Choose Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

After doing this my problem was fixed and I was able to adjust the brightness of my screen again. BUT if you play games on your laptop, doing this will cause display problems within your game.

I don't think the bios is the issue. When I press F6 and F7 the brightness bar appears on the screen and I can have it go up or down with the keys (below). The problem is that although the dot moves up and down, the brightness does not change

I am having the exact same issue with the same paltop - bar moves up and down but the brightness of the screen does not change. The laptop is only just over a month old. Did you find a fix for this?

I just did that, I have 3 drivers to choose from. I updated all of them. My screen is not as bright any more but I still can't change it. lol Now it won't increase brightness. Something funky going on here Dell.

Having same exact issue. Screen brightness is so bright it is blinding even in day light, which is great. But now the sun is down and I'm in my room and my eyes hurt. I turned on night mode, and it helped a little bit. But my driver is updated, machine is just a week old.

Hi together, I face exactly the same issue. After installing new Win11 on my latitude 7400, there was no problem, but after several days, I am not able to adjust the brightness anymore, exactly as described above. I am able to move the brightness bar with the Fn keys, but it has no effect on the actual brightness. On the other hand, clicking with the mouse in right bottom corner of home screen on battery symbol, the brightness bar is directly greyed (disabled). What is the recommended solution?
