Latitude 7480 stuck in recovery with no other boot options

My laptop 7480 recently after an update, boot to recovery with 3 options of recovery. I tried all 3 options but still not booting to windows. I also tried drain power and reset CMOS, still same issue.Tried ctrl+ ESC which is going to same recovery option. Also I tried using usb having bios exe renamed to .RCS, but no option to boot from usb, also tried my luck just keeping the usb and tried recovery, no luck.

Please suggest any support to resolve this.

If your Dell Latitude 7480 is stuck in recovery mode with no other boot options, it might indicate a corrupted hard drive or a boot order issue. To resolve this, you can try accessing the BIOS menu, checking the boot order, and potentially trying a factory reset or reinstalling the operating system if necessary.
Follow the steps below.
1. Enter BIOS Setup:
Power on the computer and repeatedly press the F2 key at the Dell logo screen to enter the BIOS setup menu.
2. Check Boot Order:
Navigate to the "Boot Order" or "Boot Sequence" settings in the BIOS.
Ensure that the hard drive (or SSD) is listed as the first boot device.
If it's not, manually set it as the first boot device and save the changes.
3. Try a Factory Reset:
If the boot order is correct, try performing a factory reset.
Access the Windows Recovery Environment by repeatedly pressing the F8 key at the Dell logo screen.
Select "Troubleshoot" then "Reset this PC" and choose the appropriate options (factory reset or reinstall Windows).

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.

Hi

Can you tell us the OS, and how the USB was created please.

Any photos you can post showing the Recovery Options and the BOOT ORDER screen in the BIOS may help.

Also the possibility that the BIOS has incorrect settings for Secure Boot etc.

@DELL-Jesse L , I have tried pressing all function keys while booting, other than recovery screen, I and three options for recovery , I am not getting any other boot options or Bios Menu. My laptop is out of warranty, I will give a try using any solutions available, if not I will do the out of warranty Dell chat. Thanks.

@anne_droid , Please find attached 2 screens, first screen is asking for password, after entering password, it gives 3 options, and tried all 3 options but after reboot, it always comes back to recovery screen.

USB creation - 8GB Formatted as FAT-32 default allocation and copied Latitude_7x80_1.41.3.exe and renamed to BIOS_IMG.rcv. I just moved that usb to my dell and rebooted and tried all recovery options.

@asishmurali

Hi

First of all I suggest you make a W10/11 USB as though you were going to do a FRESH CLEAN install.   Use the MS method...

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11

The USB you have created probably does not have an operating system on it capable of booting and/or running an executable file.

The MS method can do that if you can navigate to REPAIR and not Install.

The command prompt window would show as X: and would possibly run the BIOS repair executable.

If you can make some progress please ask again.

@asishmurali

you need to recover your BIOS. Use this guideline:

@anne_droid < Thanks so much for reply, I created a Windows 11 bootable usb using Rufus, laptop not booting with usb, during the boot I pressed F8 & F2 & F12, no boot loader screen options coming, it's going to recover options screen.

BIOS is not getting loaded.

@petermuss , I am getting into Recovery options, but the recovery options need to use a custom Latitude_7x80_1.41.3.exe from usb, so that corrupted BIOS will get updated, but somehow laptop is not detecting the BIOS_IMG.rcv from the usb.  I need to find a solution for that.

Hi

Well I found this...........

Use the .rcv File for BIOS Recovery

  • The .rcv file is used for BIOS recovery, not for regular BIOS updates. It is intended to recover a system from a corrupted BIOS.

  • Typically, you copy the .rcv file to a USB drive (formatted as FAT32), rename it if necessary (sometimes to BIOS_IMG.rcv or as specified in Dell’s instructions), and use the BIOS recovery procedure:

    • Insert the USB drive.

    • Power off the laptop.

    • Hold the CTRL + ESC keys and plug in the power, then power on the laptop.

    • Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate BIOS recovery.

  • ###########

https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER12689965M/1/Latitude_7x80_1.41.3.exe

From the BIOS Boot Menu (No OS Required)

  • Copy the downloaded BIOS .exe file to a USB drive (the drive does not need to be bootable)

  • .

  • Insert the USB drive into the laptop.

  • Power on the system and press F12 at the Dell logo to access the one-time boot menu.

  • Select "BIOS Flash Update" or "BIOS Update" from the menu.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have both rcv and exe on the same USB stick, hopefully.............
  • Browse to the BIOS file on the USB drive and select it.
  • Confirm and proceed with the update. The system will restart and apply the update
