Latitude E5440 doesn't read battery correctly on windows 10
So I updated my latitude E5440 from windows 7 to windows 10 and the computer hibernates after about 10 min while on battery. I then did a fresh install of windows 10 but it didn't resolve the problem.
The issue is that windows 10 thinks the battery drains after 10 minutes and then goes into hibernation. I can then turn the laptop on, and continue to use it for 2+ hours while the battery is at 1%.
While this is kind of a work around, It's still annoying because I have to wait for it to die, then use it with no indication of when the battery is getting low.
I tried to "recalibrate it" by charging it to full, taking the battery out, deleting both the batteries in the device manager, powering it down, removing ac, then plugging in the battery and then the AC, letting it charge fully, and then letting it drain again, but this doesn't work.
I'm kinda lost as to what I should do now as its clearly a software issue because the battery lasts (after the initial hibernation) for 2+ hours while at 1%

Apparently your battery is not communicating the right parameters to the laptop's power circuits which is where Windows gets its battery state information.
Laptop batteries have built-in control circuits that communicate all kinds of information back to the laptop.
Here we go into the ongoing forum question: Is the battery an original Dell?

Yes it is an original Dell battery.
The battery was working correctly with windows 7, which is why I assume its a software problem, because it doesn't work with windows 10.

Did you install Windows 10 drivers?

the only windows 10 specific drivers I see is a CAB file, which i can't install. I've installed all the other drivers

you may need to update the actual drivers for the hardware in your system, since the versions are different when transitioning from Win 7 to 10. These can be found thru the www.dell.com/support and entering the service tag of the system. You can also install Dell Command Update to automatically update all the drivers on your system so you don't have to do them one by one. Primarily the BIOS update is what allocates the RPM for your fan and the wattage for your battery and charger. You can also boot to the BIOS settings (F2 when powering the system on initially) and under General>Battery Information you can check the health and status of the battery outside of Windows to see if there's an issue there. I'd recommend to check before and after updating the drivers/BIOS and see if there's a difference.

I've updated all the drivers.
I checked the Battery Information page in the BIOS, it doesn't change.
