Alienware 17 R3, 15 R2, 13 R2 Not Turning On Problem (The Reason + FIX)

Alot of people including me have been having the same exact problem where their Alienware laptop wont turn on after you shut it down for no reason at all. Now, people DO NOT panic! There is nothing wrong with your hardware. The laptop is perfectly fine. What is causing this issue is the BIOS they released (1.2.12, 1.2.13, 1.2.14) these BIOS cause this problem ive never had an issues before on the latest 2015 bios that was installed on the Alienware when I purchased it until I updated the bios mentioned above. Alienware I please ask you to not release a bios that would cause issues to people and please do intensive tests before you release anything. The sticky they have on the forum here did fix the issue though, but it may come back.

this will solve your problem, in this link it says to install BIOS 1.2.13 or higher, BUT DO NOT DO THAT, and instead when the computer turns on after following the directions for the fix mentioned in the link below, download BIOS 1.2.8 and install it, then after having 1.2.8 you wont have the problem anymore.

Hi everyone. I had the same problem this morning. I got the Alienware 17 just two days ago, and had absolutely perfect performance. Last night, when finishing off, I shut down the system but this morning when trying to switch it on it would not switch on. Completely dead.

I saw this post and found the suggestion of installing Bios absurd as how is an ordinary person meant to do this on a computer that won't even switch on...?

Anyway, I called Dell Technical Support and spoke to a very helpful gentleman who instantly calmed me down and guided me through the procedure of opening the back/bottom of the computer, lifting up the RAM/memory cards, and then using a small screw to just touch this tiny little copper "button" thingy (excuse my basic language - I'm not so smart with the technical stuff), and the system made a loud beep and all was fine! Apparently this re-sets the system. I was quite nervous opening up the system myself but actually it was very simple and easy.

If anyone has this issue don't worry, just call Dell Technical Support. You'll just need a precision/tiny screwdriver. To be honest I've heard some terrible things about Dell Customer Service but my experience has been a pleasure.

I have had my mainboard replaced twice for this issue.

It has started to happen again with the new board, However, This time, There is a workaround fix of resetting the CMOS that wasn't available last time my board died.

This seems to have got it up running again. But for how long?
