Alienware Area 51 Bluetooth Problem
Bluetooth icon disappeared from the system tray and no longer appears in the Device Manager list.
In the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section I have a Unknown Device icon with device status of "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
My guess is that's my bluetooth hardware.
My question, is bluetooth on the desktop integrated into the motherboard or some other component?

Try ebay first. They have them sometimes. If not Dell will have it.
This is what you want. They have it for $15

Thanks for replying.
Yes, it was worth a try.
I did do that, unplug and open the case. After I found the module, I decided to just try unplugging the connector and plugging it back in.
Turned the machine back on and the machine was able to recognize the BT module again.

It's a separate module that plugs into the MIO board. Did you try reinstalling the driver?

Ah, cool.
Now I know what to look for when I open the case.
Thanks for the help. Never really realized how much I had gotten used to being able to use bluetooth for my desktop.

Thanks for replying, morblore.
Yes, I tried re installing the driver. No joy.
Would you now what type of device I need to get? Is it a chip that can be obtained from Dell or a third party?
The warranty has expired, by the way.

It's a little tricky to get to. You need to remove the plastic battery cover for the theater lighting and then the rest of that cover that goes from the top to the bottom. Then look inside the case on the front part of the grill.
Remove the panel in yellow and then look for the Bluetooth module around the here arrow.

"A little hard to get to"
Got that right.
With your help I located it.
I also got another reply from a different poster who suggested I make sure the connector is fully seated. I did that before I pulled it out.
Bluetooth is now working again.
Between the two of you, you save me a lot of time and $16 bucks.
I appreciate the help.
