No, the Pentium Dual-core e5400 2.7ghz Wolfdale 45nm processor is not supported.

Reading the discussions HERE and HERE should help with upgrading the e520 processor.

Only 65 nm processors with 800 or 1066 mhz FSB will work with the E-520.

Before installing the processor, check that you have BIOS version 2.2.1 [or higher], when additional CPU support was added.

okay I have decided to go with the :

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor HH80562PH0678MK - 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Kentsfield, Quad-Core, OEM, Socket 775, Processor

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3591372&CatId=2758

are the people saying it works lying? because I've read a few people put it in the e520.

thank you for the quick reply its appreciated

Hi all,

I know this is abit old, but hope to help future upgraders...

I can confirm the Q6700 (2.66Ghz quad, 65nm, Kentsfield) DOES work with the E520 :emotion-2:.

I have the 2.4 BIOS and an intel G/P945 chipset.

I upgraded from a Pent 4 D945 (3.4Ghz, 65nm, Prestler) so the Q6700 runs cooler so is compatible with the stock heatsink/fan/case fan. I used artic silver 5 therm paste which is brilliant!!

I run ATI HD3870, Q6700, 4Gb, 2 HDD so have upgraded my PSU to 450W to handle the extra load.

The Q6700 was £100 from ebay so well worth it and will now future proof the PC for a few years :emotion-2:

hope this helps someone....

I am guessing that the E6500 won't work either?
