XPS 8300 POST Beep Error Code

I tried booting up my XPS 8300 this evening and receive 4 beeps along with a blinking power button. I was pretty sure it was a hardware problem so I took out the video card (AMD Radeon HD 6450) and the beeps went away. Re-seated the video card and blew out the dust with some compressed air. Checking around the Dell website, I found that the 4 beeps meant a problem with RAM. Can anyone confirm this? Anyway, it's 5 hours later and my system is stable for the time being. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Jimbo_lion,

It seems to be an issue with the RAM. I would suggest you to run the diagnostics on the computer to check the hardware functionality.

To run ‘Dell Diagnostics’

  • Power off the computer
  • Restart the computer, press F12 on the Dell logo
  • Select ‘Diagnostics’ from the boot menu
  • Please refer to the link if any error code shows up http://dell.to/OUGnqT

I would also suggest you to remove all the RAM's from the computer. Then put one RAM at a time and check if you get the beeps. Ensure that you check in all slots available with just one RAM.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi, I have the Dell XPS 8300 and I'm getting a 5 beep error code which means that there is a real time clock error? I read that it could be the cmos battery which needs replacing but I tried that and still no luck. Even if I remove the cmos battery I still get the 5 beeps. Any help at all will be highly appreciated as it's spring break today and I just wanna play games

Hi,

Welcome to Dell Community Forum.

5 beeps on your Dell XPS 8300 is for Real-Time Clock Power Fail CMOS battery failure.

The Dell XPS 8300 has a 3-V CR2032 Lithium Coin Cell battery. Please try replacing the same.

Click on the link below to access Manuals & Documentations for your Dell computer. Under "Service Manual" you will find steps to replace the CMOS battery.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the reply, I have already tried replacing the 3-V CR2032 Lithium Coin Cell battery and I still get the 5 beeps :/ I have checked the motherboard's stand offs and checked all power connectors to the motherboard too. How can I fix this?

Thanks for the help here but I fixed the problem. I upgraded my xps 8300 into a new case but I didn't use headers for the screw which caused the motherboard to make contact with the case cause a motherboard shortage. It seems when this happens the motherboard said it was a real time clock failure which was incorrect so it would be good to take a note of that for future dell customer queries for the Dell XPS 8300

Thanks again :)
