600m screen overheat problem

I just received my new 600m and it is a very nice laptop.
The only problem is that the lower part of the screen (just near the dell logo) heats up very quickly. If I choose the highest brightness for the screen, I even don't want to tough the lower part of the screen. There is a hot spot there, not hot enough to fry eggs but it is really hot. Will that damage the screen sometime later?
I called dell service and they will replace the lcd next week. Anybody here has the similiar problem? Or it is just normal for a sxga+ lcd? Thanks!:smileywink:

It is not normal - the power supply (DC inverter) to the screen is overheating.

They will replace the inverter with the display panel.

ejn63, thank you for your quick reply:smileyhappy:

so the inverter is inside the lcd, just inside the dell logo? or  somewhere under the keyboard?

It is usually behind the screen.

For some reason all the new Dell notebooks are HEAT generators. Even though they use the low power CPU's and supposedly the newer HDD are supposed to be cooler running. I think the newer designs just don't have the correct cooling for all the parts. I have a i8200 with a 2.4 MP4m CPU which uses more power then the P-M CPU's and it get hot but not that hot.

Have the exact same problem with my 600m :(

Sent it back to Dell to replace the LCD, CPU and the cooling system. But guess what the same overheating problem still persists. Had to set up another service call, hopefully they will get it fixed once and for all this time round...

In addition, the area under the HDD feels very hot as well...

the service people bring a lcd to my home but that was a BAD one. it doesn't work all all!! And it seems that guy is not good at installing parts! Dell will send me another lcd but I will cancel the service. I don't want to give them my new lcd and get a REFURBISHED one.

i know many d600 and 600m users have met screen overheating problem so I believe this is a design flaw. buy the way, to decrease the brightness of the screes helps to decrease the lcd temperature. I won't call dell until the lcd is really ruined by the high temp!
