Turn off WIFI while docked

Question

Hello,

Does anyone know, is it possible to automatically turn off wifi adapter, while laptop is docked? I need to connect to my company network and the connection speed via ethernet is ~20 times faster. In some cases it does use ethernet, but sometimes it's not - can't figure out how it's working exactly. The best would be really to turn WIFI off while docked (only when docked, since if it's just wired, then I do need WIFI in most cases).

Hi Jagris,

Welcome to Dell Community.

I understand your concern. For older model laptops the key combination to turn off WIFI is Fn+F2 however for new model laptop we also have a switch to turn it off, however if it does not work for your laptop, please reply back with the system model and I would be more than glad to assist you.

Hi Janis,

Welcome to the Dell Community.

As per as your query, would like to inform you that as soon as you put the system in the docking station,the ethernet takes precedence but in case if this does not happens you need to turn it off manually by pressing the wireless key on the system. Hope this resolves your concern...

Thank you. This sounds clear. Although what I was looking for was - if there is some harware profile available for 'docked mode' (like there is a power options for 'wired' and  'on battery' - there you can specify these things). If there is no, I can, of course, use a switch also. + if the ethernet should take a precedence, in fact that's what I want. I will try to check, what's happening in these cases, when it doesn't.

Here ya go my friend.

Open Network Connections and right click on the Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.

Beside the Connect Using box is a Configure button. Click the button.

Click on the Advanced tab and in the Property box, select Disable Upon Wired Connection. In the Value box, select Enabled and click OK.

I believe this only works on Broadcom (Dell) nics. Now when you are wired, the wireless is disabled.

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude E6410 laptop and this option does not show up (See screenshot). The window shows the name of the wireless adapter as: Intel(R) Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN
