2408WFP A01 POWER SAVE AND BLINKING ISSUES, STILL!!

Has this issue been solved yet? I really want to throw this beautiful monitor out the window. I'm sorry, I'm frustrated. This monitor only recognizes the signal if I turn it on before I power up my PC. I typically turn my mointor off and keep my PC on if I go out. Im not a  big fan of screen savers..Anyway its not even that. The power save function on this monitor is horrid. It goes off randomly, blinks in and out when Im working in Photoshop or even a game. IT WONT WAKE UP TO KEYSTROKES OR MOUSE MOVEMENT like its supposed to. Whats the deal?

I want to turn power save off, its useless.

I just got my second A02, this one is in beautiful condition compared to the first one I got.  So far no blinking only been on for about 20 mins.  I did notice one dead pixel, but the location of it is in the top right corner and is not even really noticeable.  Crossing fingers that the problems have gone away.

Well the refurbished A02 monitor I receieved has the same issue.  I am not sure what I can do at this point.  The blinking is driving me crazy.

So Chris-M was kind enough to help me swap out my 2408WFP A01 for revision A02. However, the problem persisted even with the new revision.

After hearing from some others that certain card manufactures were releasing bios updates for this issue, I contacted XFX via a ticket and they provided me a new bios to flash to the card. Then I re-installed ATI's drivers.

Since the flash, I have not experienced the problem again...so hopefully this issue is finally fixed for me. Hope this helps.

Just a point, XFX are Nvidia GeForce cards. You said, "Then I re-installed ATI's drivers"?

Can anyone else confirm BIOS updates or a card replacement solve this problem? I've had this problem since I purchased this monitor 6 months ago and it started to get much worse about a month ago.

I took a chance on this monitor after my previous 2005wfp went bad, and I'm thinking I should switch brands.

cgguy,

Get it replaced. If you only have a monitor order number, you should contact Customer Service. If your monitor was purchased tied to a Dell PC, contact Technical Support. They will need the following -

Name:
Email Address:
Shipping address:
Phone number:
Monitor Order number or PC Service Tag number if purchased with a PC:
Monitor 20 digit PPID number found on the back on a label or on the slider card on the left rear:
Reason: Does Not Wake From Power Save or Sleep Mode - Early revisions of the 2408WFP had trouble recovering from sleep state with some older graphics cards. This issue was due to a delay setting in the firmware. This delay setting has been changed from 150 ms to 250 ms to resolve this issue

An update on my problem.  My GeForce 8800 GT died.  I replaced it with an ATI HD 4650.  The blinking is completely gone.

I'm not saying there is no problem with the 2408WFP, but some video cards certainly make it worse than others.

I have the same problem...and it's annoying! I spent a lot of money on this monitor and feel I may have a defective product.

I have my 2408WFP connected to a GeForce 9800GT and every time I power-up, I get the blanking display. I have the monitor connected to the DVI-1 port.

What should I do? What has everyone else done?

Thanks,

Jim

I have 2 x 2408WFP A02, purchased new August 2009.  One exhibits an occasional blink.  Its on the DVI-2 connection on my X1600 video card.  Latest drivers from ATI.  I have not yet tried physically swapping to see if the problem stays with the monitor.  The blinking issue I see occurs occasionally, sometimes I don't see it for a couple days.  This makes it harder to troubleshoot.  Otherwise I like these 2408WFP monitors especially @ the deep discount price I got them for using Dell coupons.  :)

I just order one Latitude E4300, Windows XP Pro, Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD and two 2408WFP.  One monitor has this issue and the other don't.  I think this should be a monitor hardware issue.  Change DVI cable will not solve the problem.  Just get the replacement and will post result when I have it tested out.

I purchased 2x 2408WFP's (rev A02), as well in June. I experienced the occasional issue with blinking/power saving mode on my old system w/ a EVGA 7800GT. However, I recently replaced my system (including a new Gigabyte GTX275) and the problem is MUCH worse. Half the once I hit the Windows logon screen one or both of the monitors will go to sleep. I am currently testing with VGA->DVI adapters and have not experienced the issue. I would have to agree that there is something going on with video card/monitor compatibility. Who do we blame, Dell, or video card manufacturer? I may try my old Dell 2001FP to verify that it's a monitor issue (until recently I was suspecting a video card issue).

This is clearly a problem with the displays - I don't think anyone disagrees with this. The powersave problems only occur with these displays, and occur to some extent on most video cards I (and others here) have tested. Other monitors perform flawlessly on the same video cards. I have had to replace my video card with a model that works on these monitors (nvidia 8800GT).

If you can't get your monitor working, I would recommend getting a refund. Dell offers (for some countries) to replace your monitor, but for many people, they get mixed results for this. For example, my monitor, out of the box, was the A02 version - but it has the powersave issues listed here.

Not that I've checked, but it seems unlikely that Dell would issue a refund on these monitors 3 months after I purchased them.

It's unfortunate that the issue only really started becoming noticeable after upgrading my PC. I do really love these monitors other than this one issue. For the time being I might stick with DVI->VGA adapters, as I really don't notice the difference (other than the lack of the power save issue).

I got a new Dell 2408 WFP last week with A02 out of the box.  The blinking issue remains.    The monitor  blinked numerous times  in the beginning when windows XP was first booted, every time. I already turned off all the windows powersave options.  I am on a dual monitor mode.  My second monitor, Dell 2001FP running on A01, does not have the blinking problem.  My graphic card is Radeon ATI X1650 256MB.  So is it still worth asking for an exchange?
