U3223QZ, webcam shutter is stuck closed

My camera is recognised by my laptop, but the shutter is stuck shut and it’s not because the touch button at the base of the monitor is red ( or disabled).

Hi,

I have resolved this issue by following these steps. (This was suggested by Google Gemini and it worked):

The "Power Drain" Reset (If Software Fails)

If the shutter is mechanically confused (the software says "open" but the gears are stuck "closed"), a driver reinstall won't fix it. You need to drain the capacitors in the monitor.

  1. Unplug the Monitor from Power (pull the plug from the wall).

  2. Unplug the USB cable from the PC/Dock.

  3. Hold the Power Button on the back of the monitor for 15 seconds while it is unplugged.

    • Why: This drains all residual electricity from the capacitors that might be holding the webcam logic in a "frozen" state.

  4. Plug the power back in and restart.

In my case, I held the power button longer for like 3 minutes. Suffice to say, the camera shutter is opening normally.

Cheers

Dell GHN (Get Help Now) chat technical support must verify the ownership and warranty status. Click the blue "Get Help Now" on the right to start a private live chat session. Share the private monitor Service Tag with them.

In Menu--> Audio & Webcam, is Webcam & Presence Sensor Enable?

Have you tried to slide the camera shutter open manually?

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

The webcam & presence sensor is enabled.

In windows settings under privacy, the camera is enabled too and apps are allowed to use it.

Unfortunately, the U3223QZ monitor webcam does not have a physical slide to open the shutter. It is digitally operated. There is a lock touch button at the bottom of the panel, which is not engaged.

I think its broken. Dell does not sell the camera as a part, else I would have bought it and given to a third party repairer to replace it.

I have to live with it unfortunately.
