Ultrasharp 2001FP - Power Save Mode - Permanent Sleep Mode

Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP remains in permanent sleep state in DVI mode. Works in analog, but with ghosting 4+/- layers deep.

Have 2 identical 2001FP monitors, and 2 identical Dimension XPS Gen2 computers.

Testing: moved problem monitor to other Dimension; problem remained with monitor. Moved good monitor to 1st Dimension; works fine in DVI. Returned problem monitor to 1st Dimension; problem remained with monitor.

Contacted Dell technical support at 800-456-3355, and requested firmware/patch referred to in forum bulletin: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=33721 . Technician suggested modifying monitor power saving settings in control panel; and, that no patch or firmware was available for the monitor.

eMailed Dell technical support through link in message above, requesting patch/firmware, awaiting reply.

Noticed MaximumPC magazine has picked up on this issue; and, that PC Magazine has also been alerted.

eMailing: PCMag editorial department/Machrone/Dvorak/Howard; MaximumPC.

Hello Dell-Jesse

I have purchased the Dell Ultrasharp 2001 FP and have run into this sleep mode problem as well :smileysad: I couldn't figure out what happened?

It was on my other PC with a AGP nVidia 5900 Ultra Videocard. I do plan to upgrade and thinking of the new ATi Card coming soon.Hope it will work with that as well.

But till then,Would it be possible to send me that Zip file with the fix for the sleep mode for the Ultrasharp 2001 FP,
I hope there's a read me file included on what to do or is it auto exe. ?

Thank You !

The_InJimidator,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

The file is for Nvidia video cards. Do you have an Nvidia video card installed in your computer?

Yes Dell-Jesse,

It's a Nvidia 5900 Ultra videocard.

Thanks!

The_InJimidator,

I emailed you the file that you requested. Please post back with your results.

Will do Dell-Jesse.

I have tried it, but is still a no go, Still just get the splash screen Dell Ultrasharp/Genesis

But need to make sure I have the monitor setup right and will try more later.

I have also tried what others have suggested but did not work either like taking out the usb cable and hitting the on/off button a few times.

Very frustrating!

Jim

Hi,

Im wondering if I need this file..I have a 2000fp, I have 2 of them actually. Ive been having random problems where my Monitor will drop into "Power_save_mode" while Im using it. I know the PC is not locked up because I can still manipulate music files with the keyboard settings I use. My Pc is an XPS600, I have a 7800gtx. The problem with the monitor has only started since I put it onto the XPS. Both Monitors respond the same way. I have all of the power save options set to "never".

Jesse, hopefully you can help me.

I have a Dimension 8300 with a NVidia GeForce FX5200 and a 1800FP monitor.  The computer won't come out of sleep mode first thing in the morning.  I've tried restarting, and initially that worked, but it doesn't now.  Eventually, after watching the screen flash off and on for 10+ minutes and restarting several times, it will starting behaving normally!  Will this patch that you emailed back in 2005 fix my problem?

Thank You,

Marla

ozres,

Are you connecting the blue or white monitor cable to the video card? Try them both one at a time. Does the monitor pass the Self Test?

ozres,

Sounds like the video card driver or the video card itself. Is there another PC to try this monitor on?

Chris,

I was off work yesterday and missed your message.  Sorry for the delay.

The monitor is connected with a gray/black cable with blue connectors.  Does that help?  And yes, the monitor passed the self test.

Thanks,

Marla

I've updated the drivers, so I don't think it's that.  We have 5 Dells here in the office, so I'll trade one monitor for another and see what happens.  If that doesn't do it, then I'll look for a new video card.  Thanks for your help.

Well, I swappped two monitors last night before I left work.  Came in today and the problem child was flashing like usual on my co-worker's computer.  So, it looks like it's the monitor.  Now I have to study up on what to buy.

Thanks for the help,

Marla

I have a laptop connected to a Dell P2211 monitor via a docking station. The monitor is randomly going into sleep mode and will not come out unless there is a hard reboot, or if we open the laptop we can sometimes get it to wake up. Would this file help us?

Dell Latitude D820

Op System: XP

Video Card: NVidia Quadro NVS 120M

Thank you,

Ann
