Reset counters on a 5224

The process to reset the counters on a 5224 seems awfully laborious and partly broken and I'm hoping there's another option.

Seems like to do it through the web gui it's very slow and you have to go to System/Statistics/Table and choose a port and then clear it and then choose another port and so on.

There should be a way to clear all at once.

SSh'd into the switch and did it via CLI

Clear counters ethernet 1/1

Clear counters ethernet 1/2

and so on.

Same problem you have to clear one at a time, at least it's possible to do quickly at the CLI.

However, after doing it at the CLI I went back to the GUI and they weren't cleared in the GUI??????????

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

DeaconC,

Clearing the counters in both the Web Management Interface and the CLI must be done one interface at a time.  At this time there is no function which will allow you to clear all the counters simultaneously.

Due to the way the polling of counters is implemented, when you clear the counters in the CLI, the Web Management Interface counters are not cleared.  Rebooting the switch however, does clear both management interface's counters.

Thanks,

Gotta say that seems pretty weak to me.

Is this something that a future firmware update will take care of?

Clearing all the counters via the webgui takes a half an hour or more becuase of the speed of the gui and the poor setup of the pages.  Clearing via the command line is fairly quick but since that doesn't clear gui counters of limited value.

Rebooting isn't an option as servers are hooked to this thing and accesses pretty much 24 x 7 so I don't really consider that an answer.

I jumped on the Dell switch bandwagon with both feet, but am starting to feel like it was a mistake.  There seem to be significant issues with the management of these beasties and the pace of firmware updates seems very slow.

Especially is you are used to Cisco switches like the 2924 and the 3524.

So, I'd really appreciate an honest answer with regard to timelines future firmware updates for these switches and what will be in those updates, if there are going to be any.

Thanks for your help.

RE: PowerConnect 8024F - for anyone else's interest.

reset counters can be done on a per port basis.

however clear counters asks if one wants this done for all ports, and this works just fine.

CLI & GUI counters are in sync after a clear counters.

This will now assist with diagnosis of Oversize packet & Jabbers that I was seeing.

I discovered that the command 'clear counters' works via the cli and it also clears the Web Gui.
