Blocking ping requests

I have a Belkin N Wireless router v3.01.29 and have enabled it to block ICMP ping requests.  However on running GRC 'Shields UP' tool it reports that my computer is responding to ping requests. What's the problem and is my computer still secure?  This is a new problem.  I have recently changed my cable modem and also installed a media streamer.  Thanks for any advice.

Hi,

Your computer would be able to ping, its your Router that blocks ping requests, anybody outside your network would not be able to ping your router, in other words your computer. But computers within the same network, will be able to ping each other.

So if you try any software they would still tell you your computer will be able to ping. In order to be sure you would have t ping your External IP address (Whatismyip.com) from any other computer from the internet. Again there could be your ISP firewall blocking ping requests.

Hope this helps
