Dell Computer won't connect to Time Warner Router

Hello,

My Dell Computer won't connect to my home network.  All of my other devices connect (XBOX1, HP Laptop, phones, etc.) but for whatever reason my Dell Computer will not.  I made one of my phones a mobile hotspot and the computer will connect to that so it is not the wireless card.

I had a similar issue and it was solved by turning off the "power saving" thing under Control Panel>Device Manger.  I followed other posts on the forum but nothing seems to work.  Can anyone help me or have any idea how to get my computer to connect to the router?  Thanks!

Hi,

Can you tell us what model of Dell you're using, along with what version of Windows is on it, which wireless card is installed in the system, and the current driver version number for the wireless card?

I would recommend you take a look at the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center.  It has some of the basic troubleshooting steps you'll want to try to see if you can resolve the problem.

A few more questions:

Is your Dell system "seeing" the wireless network but not connecting when you try?  if so, what error message are you getting when you try to connect?

Have you tried to take the security settings off the router and see if the Dell system can connect at that point?  (Don't forget to turn the security back on, this is just a test to see if the issue is with configuration / passwords)

Have you rebooted your router?  (pull out the power for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.  Allow it to fully start back up and go through it's power-on cycle, then restart your computer and see if it's able to connect)

Have you updated the firmware on your router lately?

To better help me troubleshoot this issue please answer the questions I posted earlier, as well as right clicking on my Dell Todd username and sending me a private message with the Dell Service Tag of the system you're trying to connect with.  Please keep all troubleshooting discussions in this public thread so that others with the same questions can see what is done to resolve the problem.

Thank you,

Todd
