Problem with WLan drivers on Dell Inspiron N5010

I've recently bought Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop, however there seems to be one small issue: can't get WLan drivers installed.

I'm using Windows 7 (64x edition). On Device Manager, under "Other Devices" there is an unknown "Network Controller".

Tried installing drivers from Dell Drivers & Downloads section (yes, used my service tag), but there was a problem with following ones:

-  R252544 for Dell Wireless WLAN 1520 Half MiniCard. Result: "No compatible hardware found. The software you are attempting to install is not supported on this system. The software will not be installed."  Half Mini Card

- R247430 for Intel Intel (R) WiMAX Link 6250. Result: "This software package cannot be installed on your system."

- R252283 for Intel Intel(R) WiFi Link 6200 "No compatible hardware found. The software you are attempting to install is not supported on this system. The software will not be installed."

All these messages appear right after running setup. Other drivers were installed successfully and in the right order.

It appears several of us are requesting the Broadcom WLAN drivers be sent to us because we can't find them on Dell's site or online (real nice Customer Service Dell!) If someone is able to provide them, please do. I will provide my email address. Thank you.

Hi to all

if you are not getting the right drivers for your hardware, please ensure that below troubleshooting are  performed.

1) have u enabled wireless in BIOS, to check this , press F2 when u see the dell logo during startup, expand onboard devices & check whether wireless is enabled.

2) go to control panel classic view & windows mobility center & ensure wireless is turned on.

3)go to device manager by typing devmgmt.msc in run & check whether pre- existing or incompatible drivers are installed ,there should n't be any red x mark on  drivers, if you have red x, which means , device is disabled  in device manager, right click & enable it.

4)if you have any ! mark on wireless drivers, connect a Ethernet cable to lan port & access internet, then right click on drivers which have exclamation mark & try to search for updated drivers using windows update.

5)if still the drivers not found, right click on the drivers >> properties >> details,  & in the drop down box, search for device ID & vendor id & compatible hardware id & search those strings in www.pcidatabase.com & find out the right product description & then go to the manufacturer website & download it from there.

if all the above steps are failed, please insert the dell drivers & utilities CD & during startup press F12 when u see dell logo & select CD/DVD ROM & select dell 32 bit diagnostics & run the diagnostics for wireless card & if the card is faulty, contact dell technical support & replace the card.

****Ensure that you download 32 bit drivers for your 32 bit OS & 64 bit drivers for 64 bit OS, to find whether your PC is 32 or 64 bit, right click on computer & select properties & check for system type.

Please revert back for any clarifications.

Thanks & regards

Srini

Hello.. I bought my Dell Inspiron N5010 in 2011. I am having this same problem for about one and half years. I serviced my laptop last year. After that problem was solved. but once I install my operating system wireless network stopped working again. I tried almost every version of Broadcom. Currently i have broadcom_wlan_5603506 installed in my system. Problem is it won't load after istallation. I can locate the driver in the directory after installation but it doesn't work. Please, suggest me some sollution. I need to use create adhoc network and use wifi option right now. Thanks.

The solution i suggested earlier was based purely on my experience and I was able to install and use my wifi at 300mbps speed.
It is for sure that if all the other things are ok, the suggested drivers would work fine. n5010 has been one of my favourite machines n never put me in trouble.
Lets try a few general/ basic steps to troubleshoot the issue.
First, check that wifi is enabled from the BIOS. Secondly OS (windows 7) is able to detect it (device manager) . Which version of Windows you are using 32 or 64 bit. You may try installing drivers from windows update after a clean/fresh OS installation. As you said you have serviced the laptop. make sure that the wlan card is properly in place, cleaned contacts, port n wlan are ok and antenna cables are attached.
You can also look for the device vendor ID and search for the drivers. Plenty of help is available - just google a bit.

Hello... Last night I was able to solved my problem... I would like to thank prathalye for his advice. Driver which was missing in my system was R279450  or "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000, v.13.2.0.30,A00" driver. For Win7 32bit system you can try this R279450 or for 64bit R279550 . Also, install broadcom_wlan_5603506 in your system. Hope this will be a help for those who are having same issues with Dell N5010 as I was. :emotion-1:

I came upon your post and I have a question.

I have a 64 bit Dell n5010 and have been unable to get wireless.

I cannot find broadcom_wlan_5603506

I have had many Dell laptops and desktops and never had this problem.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks bayawan
