Wireless problem--suddenly can't connect

Suddenly, I cannot get out through my laptop.  I was on the Internet the night before, and the next morning I was not able to connect to my network.  I have tried several different things, including setting up a new router, thinking that it could be the router.  That did not work.  I got some kind of message like, "cannot connect to the Internet." I can connect directly to the modem, and that works fine.  I am going to try to connect using a different wireless network tomorrow, but I am looking for more suggestions about what could be wrong.  I have an Inspiron E1505, using XP with a Linksys G router.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Please post the results of an ipconfig /all from the wireless card and router turned on.

To get a little ahead of myself, I will aso suggest you remove all encrytpion settings from the router and card and see if that helps and if you can then connect you know it is a security setting.

Also, one of the pages within the router setup will show you the current status of the routers conenction.  See if it is pulling an address from the modem.

jmwills,

Can you please give me more specific info on how to get the information you just asked for?  By the way, I was able to connect today using a different wireless network.  Thanks.

Windows Key + R

Type cmd and hit enter and then type this (watching the spacing)

ipconfig /all >> C:\ipconfig.txt

Now go to your C Drive and find that file / copy & paste here.

Your last note indicates the wireless card is oky and we shoudl be looking at the router as the point of failure.

By chance you didn't move the modem switch on the side of the laptop did you?

Ok, well unfortunatley you signature does not let us know what machine you have, but most Dell laptops have a WiFi switch on the right side of the system.

This thread is my first post, and I just didn't include all of my info in my sig.  Sorry about that.  I have a Dell Inspiron 1505.  I do not see any kind of switch on the right side of the machine.  It worked without any problem when I went to a nearby hotel yesterday to test it.  I haven't gone through the steps that the previous poster suggested, but I will post them when I do.  Thanks for the help.
