Compatible motherboard replacement for Dell Optiplex 380 DT

Question

Hey, new user here

i have an old Dell Optiplex 380 Desktop form factor and I wanted to see if there was a compatible motherboard upgrade. I would love to be able to add a recent dell motherboard into it and if not I want to be able to to install a motherboard with recent CPU compatability (intel) thanks.

380DT case can only fit old BTX motherboard. There is almost no modern motherboard that is BTX these days. Almost all are either ATX, its variants, or proprietary. BTX and ATX are not compatible. In some perspective they are like mirror images.

The only possible way to force fit an ATX motherboard in 380 case is extensive modification of case. In addition, DT uses proprietary psu of nonstandard form factor. 380 case front panel uses Dell proprietary ribbon cable which needs to be rewired for power switch etc.

This forum post has some information on the 380. But if you want a MB with current CPU compatibility I suspect that is a lost cause. Dell MB are very proprietary and the odds of finding one that is case compatible would be slim. Besides as you stated that is a very old system so current MBs would be a matter of searching down one that would fit.

Thanks for replying quick, I guess I’m going to have to be stuck with a socket 755/775 mb then I guess, unless you have a newer optiplex motherboard that will fit in the case then I’m happy to try that as I am a fan of that design of optiplex case

Thanks, im probably just going to install the highest available specs for my PC. I have another question, was there a socket 775 variant of the Dimension C521 or is it just AMD
