Optiplex 3050 motherboard in 3040 case?

Question

Will it swap, no worries? Or are the bolt holes in different spots and perhaps wiring harness from the PSU isn't long enough or other little things?

Does the front panel and back panel I/O line up right?

I'm thinking of upgrading this box since I'm having random freezes with no activity on the pc after several minutes up to 30 minutes sometimes. The only thing I haven't swapped out is the power supply, motherboard, and cpu.

mounting 3050 in 3040 case might work although psu are not interchangeable. 3040 has 8 pin, 3050 6 pin.

You're the man, man! Seems to be the same outline and curves. Anyway to tell if the bolt holes have the same alignment? And if the 3050 PSU fits in the 3040 case?

I didn't find PSU dimensions, but both MT's have 240w PSU.

The only way I know of to tell if screw holes have same alignment is to compare images.

that would work.  the TFX psu in 3050 and 3040 have same form factor.  It is an easy swap.

99% sure that the 3050 and 3040 cases are identical in engineering design. Dell basically switched motherboard between the two models and dropped the older proprietary 8 pin atx motherboard design and adopted the 6 pin which is now ubiquitous across almost all Dell desktop models.
