No recent storms. Started acting up a few weeks ago. I thought it was Gmail / Google issues. Decided to reinstall Win 10. Things looked like they got worse. Web pages loaded slow or not at all. Downloads failed for large files. Trouble with getting Google to validate third party apps (I have Google set up properly for this). Email clients would not send email with attachments through Gmail but will send them through Verizon strange). Did a lot of troubleshooting and on a whim disconnected the ethernet cable and went wireless and to my amazement the issues seemed to go away. Since my laptop works fine (connected and wireless) I ruled out the router. Changed the ethernet cable and that didn't help. Only things left are the driver and a bad card. I'm using the recommended driver. Guess I can try a usb 3 external ethernet adapter and see if that works. I guess I could have a Win 10 setting wrong. Would any Bios settings affect this? Not sure what else it could be._

Try replacing the CMOS battery if it hasn't been done in the last 5 years. A low battery causes seemingly unrelated bizarre problems.
If not resolved, you're right, onboard Ethernet could be to blame. Other community members might chime in as well.

Ethernet is usually the most reliable.
I install Windows 10 on lots of used PCs. Even with a basic installation of Windows, the Ethernet just works.
Did you have a recent thunderstorm? I have had a router's Ethernet port go bad. It was the one that was connected to the PC.
