Optiplex SFF(mini tower) graphics card?

I just ordered a mini tower, saw no upgrade options for a separate video card, so am guessing that this is a no-go?  But wanted to ask "you", just to be sure.

All of the current mini-towers have a 180 watt power supply and pci-e 3.0 x2 expansion slots.  For a higher resolution than HD(1920x1080) monitor, I thought that something other than the integrated intel 630 graphics might be needed?

The handbook listed a few Radeon models (R5 and R7s) as options but did not state whether one of these could be added without changing the power supply.

So, can any video card be added, that would be an improvement over the integrated 630, to a mini tower without having to change out the power supply?

thanks

@bradthetechnut

"Dell's 240w-265w PSU's are able to power 75w cards - GTX 1050 ti, GTX 1650, etc. "

This is incorrect dangerous advice.

Its completely wrong and contrary to Dell and UL safety ratings.

unsafe bad advice post should be removed.

no.  4gig cards use 2 slots and too much power.

I already said the 30w GT 1030 would be fine when the OP asked about it.

Hello @speedstep

I just wrote a post asking a question which you may have made obvious that I missed.

I have a 3050 with a stock 180 W PS.

Can I infer that all the video models you identify can be safely used with the stock 180 W PS?

Thanks very much for your time.

In Peace,

180W is too small for anything.

Optiplex 3050 Spec Sheet

Yes, there is a spec sheet for the 3050.  But it has a couple of falsehoods.  It lists the 65w R7 450 and the 50w R5 430.  Either is too much for a 180w PSU.  They need the MT which has 240w PSU.  MT's in general are much better for upgrading with GPU's.

@speedstep - Can a 180w PSU even power the 30w GT 1030?  Makes me wonder why MB has blue slot.

Dear, first of all thanks for the answers, I ask one last thing: I have a 3060 sff and therefore Dell "authorizes" me to take a rx 550 4gb single slot but on various sites I have seen that with this card they recommend a 300w power supply and on my pc I have a 200w one. Can go? What would happen if I insert that video card? Sorry for the English but I used google translate: I'm Italian and I don't speak English well

Hi @Giulio77 ,

Your translation came through just fine.

Sorry, but I can't suggest or recommend a 50w GPU card on a 200w PSU.  200w PSU is still too small.
