PowerEdge R760xd2 – GPU Installation (Riser & Accessories Required)
Hello everyone,
I have a Dell PowerEdge R760xd2 server and I’m planning to install an NVIDIA L4 (full-height, 24 GB) GPU.
Before ordering parts, I need help understanding exactly what I need to make this upgrade work.
Server details
Model: PowerEdge R760xd2
Planned GPU: NVIDIA L4 (full-height, 24 GB)
- Current config link
Questions
Which riser card do I need to install the NVIDIA L4 in this platform?
(Part number and full details would be very helpful.)What GPU accessories are required?
PCIe power cables (type and Dell p/n)
Any required brackets, airflow shroud, or mounting hardware
Does this server require a GPU enablement kit or special support kit?
Any PSU / power recommendations for stable operation with the L4?
Any BIOS / firmware requirements to enable GPU support?
I want to make sure I order the correct Dell parts and avoid compatibility issues.
Thanks in advance for your guidance

Hello,
This does look correct for the L4 GPU
Riser Config 3A, Full Length, 3x16 LP Slots (Gen4), 2x16 FH Slots (Gen4), L4 GPU
[SKU: 330-BCMW, 470-BBFH]

Hello,
These are the Enablement kit and GPU part numbers I see:
470-BBWW
GPU Enablement Kit for L4 GPU, Customer Install, Shroud, riser, cables
490-BJRQ
NVIDIA L4, PCIe, 72W, 24GB Passive, Single Wide Full Height GPU, Customer Install, Dell validated card.
You would then install the GPU in Riser 2
Make sure you are Updated to the latest BIOS, iDRAC
1100W or greater PSU are typically recommended when using GPU

@DELL-Charles R Thank you for your reply. Does my current riser (Riser 2) support a full-height GPU?

Hi, not unless your system already has the Dell GPU Enablement Kit (470‑BBWW), because the required GPU‑capable riser is included only in that kit.

Thank you for the clarification.
I just want to double-check one detail to make sure I fully understand before placing the order.
When I use the Dell Solution Configurator:
If I select Riser Configuration 2A, the NVIDIA L4 option does not appear.
When I select Riser Configuration 3A (L4 GPU), then the L4 becomes selectable.
Could you please confirm whether:
Is Riser 2A fully compatible with the L4 when using the 470-BBWW enablement kit, even though the configurator does not show the GPU option?
Or is Riser 3A actually the required configuration for L4 support on the R760xd2?
Does the 470-BBWW kit effectively convert Riser 2 into a GPU-capable configuration?
I just want to make sure there is full alignment between the recommended parts and the configurator logic, as this is for a customer project and I want to avoid any ordering mistakes.
