PowerEdge T310 memory upgrade problems
Hi
Today I tried to upgrade the RAM of a T310 server (one X3440 processor) using 4x8Gb memory modules
The mainboard has 6 slots in a row. (The 1st and the 4th slot have white clips).
So, I've installed 2 dimms on the 1st and 2nd slot, and the other 2 ones on the 4th and 5th slot (starting from the top)
When i boot up the server, the lcd on the front, shows the following message "Temp: unavailable" (I think there's more on that message but it stucks there), the fan works on 100% and nothing happens. No screen, no "beeps", no leds on keyboard or mouse, nothing.
I've upgrade BIOS to 1.11.0 but the problem stil remains.
Can you please help me?
Thank you in advance

Yes, those should work. 4 of them will max out the memory at 32GB. Even though they are 1066MHz they will operate at 800MHz if you use 4 of them. If you only put in 2 then they will operate at 1066MHz.
Thanks

Hello tan145
It looks like you have the DIMMs in the correct slots. They should be populated in slots 1,2,3,4; which would correlate to the slots you have populated if I'm looking at the diagram correctly.
The problem is that the memory you are trying to install is not compatible. The T310 does not support x4 or x16 DRAMs on RDIMMs. You are trying to install an x4 RDIMM. I don't think you are going to be able to get these DIMMs to work in this server.
Thanks

Daniel thank you for your fast reply.
Too bad that the current dimms are useless :(
Do you believe that these dimms are going to work? It seems that they are compatible with my server
Thanks again

Finally, the server is operational using 32Gb RAM at 800Mhz as you mentioned.
Thank you very much for your help. :emotion-21:

Were trying to get 32Gb on one of these systems. Dell is telling us part unavailable, and they are unable to supply the specs.
Can you tell me what memory you used to upgrade to 32Gb (ie part number, or specs)

Use this ! This should give you the specs necessary to meet your Server's requirement.

BE CAREFUL using this recommendation.
I recently purchased the 8GB kit listed on this link thinking that I would be able to use it with the existing memory. However, any combination of the new and old memory would cause a memory error on the front LCD panel. I think this is because the existing sticks are
2GB 2Rx8 PC3-8500
The ones I purchased are PC3-12800 - which means they probably don't run because of the different speeds. Oops.

Im also having a problem with upgrading the memory in my T310.
The unit had 2x2GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600E and I want to upgrade to 32GB for running a few VMs.
I got a 32GB kit of 4x8GB 2Rx4 PC3-8500R. Crucial said these would be compatible, but I get the light error 1 4 with blinking amber light.
Suggestions?

Im also having a problem with upgrading the memory in my T310.
The unit has currently 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600E in Slot 1 and 2 (8GB)
I want to add 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600R in Slot 3 and 4 (8GB)
totals to 16GB
Will this work together ?
First try wasn't successful, maybe because I didn't identify the slot numbers correctly
Thanks in advance

I am having issues too. Our server currently is 8GB (4X2GB). I bought 2 more 2GB to upgrade the capacity to 12GB. But when I power up the server I get an error code 1. I can use 4 of any combination of the 6 2GB memory I have and the server boots. As soon as I add the last 2 memory then the server does not boot and I get an error code 1. HELP!
