R420 server failed hard drive replacement

I have a Power Edge R420 with a Perc H310 mini and 3 disk raid 5 configuration. One of my disks is flashing amber with a "failure predicted" message in open manage administrator. I know the steps to replace the failed drive, my question is what do I do if my replacement drive has previous data or raid info? Can I clear or erase that drive thru Openmanage Server Administrator or do I have to go thru the raid controller?

Hello

The disk will be put into a ready state unless the controller detects virtual disk information. It will only detect virtual disk information that is in a format it can read, so if the disk was part of a virtual disk on a different type of controller it may just show up as ready.

If virtual disk information is detected it will be put into a foreign state. You can use the clear foreign configuration option to delete the virtual disk information on all foreign disks attached to the controller. You can perform foreign configuration operations from the controller BIOS or OMSA. Foreign configuration options will only be displayed if a foreign configuration is detected. You can read more in the controller manual and the OMSA storage manual.
