PowerVault MD3200i- Windows Server 2003 iSCSI MPIO

I have a PowerVaut MD3200i Array with 2 controllers, two iSCSI VLAN's configured on each controller. I have two VMware Virtual Hosts connecting to 4 Virtual Disks on the MD3200i array with MPIO and no issues.  I now have one virtual machine running Windows Server 2003 64bit and I'm trying to connect to two Virtual Disks on the MD3200i through iSCSI initiators.  I have followed the directions provided and installed the MS iSCSI initiator Service without the MS MPIO Service. I then installed the Dell MSDM from the resources DVD that came with the array and installed the VSS and VSD utilities.  The MPIO option is not available within the iSCSI configuration as mentioned in the documentation. I have tried to remove and re-install  both the Dell MSDM and MS iSCSI initiator service.  The issue I'm having now is the Virtual Disk is not accessed through the "Preferred Owner". I am unable to setup the load balance policy without the MPIO option.

Hello cwohechler,

Are you trying to connect the 2003 system to the virtual disks that are already connect to your other virtual hosts?  Also are you trying to connect directly to the volume or are you going to connect to vmware and then creating the space for vm?

Also you don’t need to install MDSM on the virtual machine unless you host is going to be direct connected to your MD3200i.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

The 2003 server is connecting to two virtual disks that are not shared by any other hosts. And the disks are not presented by VMware. The issue I see is that the MPIO option is not present in the iSCSI configuration. So I have 4 ducks showing up in Disk Msnager vs 2

Correction to my last sentence above.. "So I have 4 ducks showing up in Disk Msnager vs 2", should read "So I have 4 disks showing up in Disk Manager vs 2"  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as the LUN continues to move to the non preferred contoller

Hello cwohechler,

What is the current version of firmware that you are running on your MD3200i?  Also which version of the Resource CD did you install on your 2003 server?  All steps that you stated that you have done when installing MPIO from the deployment guide should have worked.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Sam,

The firmware version for the MD3200i is 07.84.56.60. I used the DVD that cam with the array a few months ago.  Should I download an older version of the Resource CD/DVD?
