Two different NVSRAM md3600i

We are trying to upgrade the firmware on our md3600i, but due to two different NVSRAM versions (firmware is the same on both controllers) - whatever I try, it fails both on the GUI and SMcli. Any help would be really appreciated!

  • Data validation error: The storage array cannot be upgraded as host port type representation in RAID Controller Module 0 did not match with those of RAID Controller Module 1. Contact a technical support representative to resolve this issue.

smcli xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -c "download storageArray NVSRAM file=\"MD3600i_MD3620i_NVSRAM_N26X0-784890-904.dlp\" healthCheckMelOverride=TRUE;"

Check array error at line 1.
An error occurred while retrieving data from the storage array.
Possible reasons for the error include:
1) One or more RAID controller modules may be disconnected from the network
2) The password authentication failed
3) The AMW needs restarted because the Management Class version has changed
Please make necessary modifications and retry the operation.
The command at line 1 that caused the error is:

download storageArray NVSRAM file="MD3600i_MD3620i_NVSRAM_N26X0-784890-904.dlp" healthCheckMelOverride=TRUE;

Script execution halted due to error.

SMcli failed.

Hello Stephen20,

What you are going to want to do is to reboot your MD3600i.  The reason that you are getting the error is that your controllers are not synced.  What you also need to make sure that the selector switch that is on the left side of your chassis is in the up position.  After rebooting your MD3600i you should be able to upgrade the firmware to the latest.  If that still is not working, then you will need to put controller 1 in offline status and remove it from the enclosure for 15minutes.  Once 15minutes has passed then you can add the controller back and place online and it should be reporting correctly.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for this information. We will try this when we can next power down the systems (early April unfortunately - we are a boarding school we have to keep everything running 24/7 while the students are in residence).

I will update the thread then

Hi there!

So we have finally been able to do the steps you have suggested (switching the toggle switch, power cycle the SAN and place controller 1 offline and remove for 15 mins, etc.) but still no joy! Looking at the table again, it looks like it was controller 0 which was behind. I repeated the same steps in your original message as I did with controller 1 but it's still mismatching. Is there any way I can force controller 0 to update it's NVSRAM version to match with the Storage Array?

Best regards
Stephen
