Dell Precision T3610 Processor Upgrade
I have Dell Precision T3610 With Intel Xeon CPU E5- 1650 V2 @3.50Hz, 3501 Mhz 6Core. I would like to upgrade to the most powerful processor I can fit inside my computer? I read some where that it is the E5-2650 v2 (2.6 GHz, L3 20 MB, 8-core, Turbo 3.4 GHz). Is that true,. If not Can anyone tell me which one will that be? And if I did buy it. Is just replacing the new one with old one. Or I need to do some more work to make it work properly inside my computer? Thank you for your help?

The upgradeable to Xeon E5-2697 v2 had been confirmed by both tmtam and Martin St in this thread. The system was validated and shipped with CPU up to Xeon E5-1650 v2, which was 130w TDP. So you can use the OEM cooler (heatsink + fan) for Xeon E5-2697 v2, which is also 130w TDP.
Beside ensuring your system has the latest BIOS firmware, no other modifications needed.

There are, usually spanning 2 generations. The easy way to find the part numbers is :
using your preferred computer model ( example 7820 )
google for a benchmark > https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/Dell-Precision-7820-Tower/72419
click on one, and you will get the info of the mb p/n associated with it.
So, you know, before clicking, which cpu was tested... and you know that if it's a Gen2 ( in this example ), the mb will also allow Gen1.
For each series of workstations, any motherboard revision supporting v2 - v4 - gen2 , will also support v1 - v3 - gen1 respectively.

Are there any specific motherboard revisions that allow compatibility with multiple generations of processors, such as supporting both Gen1 and Gen2 Xeon processors?
