Microphone not found
Hi, All...
Just got a new Precision 5820 with Windows 10 preinstalled by Dell. I'm not able to use a microphone when I plug one in.
When I plug it in, a dialog does appear asking me if it's a microphone or line-in. I've tried both to no avail.
When I look in Settings/Privacy/Microphone it is turned on for apps.
When I look in Settings/System/Sound under Choose your input device it says, No input devices found. When I click Manage sound devices, nothing appears under Input devices.
I do have the Realtek drivers installed.
What am I missing?
Thanks!
Curt

One thing I failed to mention was that the logon session with Windows 10 was through RDP - a remote connection. Apparently Windows does not allow access to microphones when accessing via RDP. When I logged in via the console, it works fine.
Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I'm using the blue connector on the rear of the box. The mic I'm using is a simple lapel mic and it works on another computer. I've also tried using the line-out from a piece of audio equipment.
The jack physically looks fine.
Note that as I mentioned in my post I do get a dialog pop up when I insert the mic into the jack. See photo below.
The nature of my problem isn't that there's no sound, but rather the operating system doesn't appear to see the mic. If I go into settings, I see "No input devices".

Try each of the below connection steps, if they apply to your situation, to correct issues involving microphone connections.
1. Disconnect and reconnect the plug. Even if the plug was already connected to the correct connector, reconnecting might help if there is a connection problem between the plug and socket.
2. Connect the microphone (or the source device used for line-in) to another computer or audio device. If a microphone or source device does not work with another audio device, replace it. Does the mic work on another computer?

Please try these steps,
Go to device manager and look for audio controllers.
Check if there is any error on Microphone driver.
Look for sound video and game controller and check if there is any error. Share a screenshot of it.

I've unplugged and plugged it back in several times with several different devices. They all work fine on another computer.

Service Tag is
Screen shot of Device Manager...
Edit: When I double click on any of those 3 devices, I see "This device is working properly."
