7710 I5 to I7 upgrade?

Dell 7710 I5-6300HQ
AMD FirePro W5170M, 2GB GDDR5
No Thunderbolt port
91w battery

Hi all. Quick question from a pc novice/tinkerer. After a liquid spill killed my main board I'm trying to compile a shopping list of parts needed to upgrade the above Dell to an I7-6820HQ or I7-6920 HQ.

I'm assuming, perhaps unwisely, I can buy an I7 board/cpu and install it to work with other components of the I5.

Would the screen, battery, charger, I/O port boards, memory, and GPU be compatable with an I7 board?

The answer is yes, the board will work with your existing components (subject to there not being a Thunderbolt port aboard, for which there's no opening in your current chassis).

Thanks very much for the reply.

I figured some main boards, specifically those shipping with TB might expect an I/O board with a TB port and won't function until It found one.

Sounds like I only need to order a main board, thx for the help.
