Dell Precision 3520 w/ USB-C/Thunderbolt port hotplug error.

I own a Dell Precision 3520, with USB-C/Thunderbolt port (svctag ) and i face this problem.

Hotplugging an external HDD enclosure (NVME to USB-C) on the USB-C port does not work.
The disk is detected and explorer opens with the disk contents, but it is auto-ejected in 2-3 seconds. This leaves no trace in the system (no error message, no log in event viewer), as if the disk was never plugged.
It works OK if the disk is plugged from boot.

The HDD enclosure is verified working (with hotplugging) on a NUC-7 and a Latitude 7480, both with USB-C only ports no Thunderbolt.

Can someone tell me if-how this can be fixed?

Thanks for the heads-up Dell-Cares, I am very well aware that my service warranty has expired.

I am just looking for some help to a problem for a Dell system, inside the Dell "community" help forum.

Perhaps you could give me one?

Hi @Asxetos,

Were you able to resolve your problem?  My guess is that Dell laptops (even if connected to A/C power) do not supply enough power via the USB-C port to power something like an NVME in an external case.  Which seems weird since I thought USB-C was all about POWER capability.

I have the same problem with a 7720.  External HDD's work fine, but not external SATA or NVME SSD drives mounted in Vantec enclosures.
