We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.
Correct. Before the case can be assigned to the agent, the warranty must be checked via the Service Tag.
The last message DELL-Cares agents received from you was on September 22. What is still not clear from the internal notes... * Did you have this issue using the OEM Windows 10 Pro? * Or was this Precision 5540 never tested by you prior to using your Windows 10 Enterprise image? * Do any other Precision 5540 there using your Windows 10 Enterprise image have this same issue?
Hello @JJones0821 , I am just a computer user and am not Dell employee. While you are awaiting for Dell support, I will try to help you with my experience.
Your Precision 5540 has more than one audio device, when you use the built in speaker or when you plug in a headphone, Realtek will be select as audio source. When you use an HDMI cable to connect to an external monitor, the Intel display with audio capable will be select as audio source. Hence, your Device Manager will show at least 2 or more audio drivers. Windows doesn't install Intel audio over Realtek but it is a separate driver. My Precision has 3 audio, Realtek, Intel, and the third one is from NVidia graphics card.
To play back audio with built-in speaker, click on the volume icon in system tray (bottom right corner) and toggle on the list of audio playback and choose Realtek. I hope it will work for you.
- - - ORIGINAL POST - - - @Chino de Oro - Unfortunately Windows 10 makes it near impossible to re-enable the on-board Speaker, on-board Headphones or even docking station Headphone jacks, once one plugs-in a HDMI cable to an external monitor.
Linux doesn't have this issue under systemd and nearly all desktop environments, and works flawlessly for me under either GNOME Shell/Classic or XFCE. Don't know why Windows has to 'hide' other audio options, and I cannot even get to it under Advanced Settings.

EDIT: Drivers listed here nailed it. Now I can choose between Intel Audio (HDMI) and RealTek Speakers/Headphones.
