M3800 HDMI Audio Problems
After updating to Windows 2004 last fall, I noticed that my computer would no longer send audio over HDMI.
I realized this after the 10-day update rollback period and my troubleshooting has included changing the integrated graphics and display audio drivers forwards and backwards. This behavior also happens with a mDP to HDMI adapter and with a variety of displays and cables. An associate has a near-identical M3800 and does not experience the same issue. I recently completed an in-place update to version 20H2. I then found that the HDMI audio will work when it is connected on startup. If I then dis/reconnect the cable, it will continue to work. However, if I power on my laptop without the HDMI, then connect it later, no audio comes out, though Sounds>Playback will show the volume levels moving appropriately.
I understand that this machine's software support is EOL, but is there a way to get my HDMI audio to work normally?
A workaround I'm considering is using a HDMI dummy plug to start up, then remove.

Another test confirmed to me that it was a software issue and not hardware. I dual-booted into Ubuntu and was able to send audio over HDMI just fine. I never found a fix for that windows install, but I've retired that machine so I'll close this thread

@rzimbauer See if Hyper-V is installed. If so, uninstall it. I had an XPS 15 9530, which is the sister system of the Precision M3800, and when I last had it, there was some Windows or driver issue that caused the Intel HD Graphics 4600 GPU to be unable to send audio via HDMI when Hyper-V was running.

Thank you @jphughan Hyper-V was enabled so I disabled it from Windows Features and let it restart. Still experiencing the same behavior from the HDMI audio, though.
