Precision 5510 Reboot and BIOS Upgrade Problems
Hello,
I recently got a used Precision 5510 which was sold as is because the prior owner "bricked it". I took it apart, cleaned it and unplugged the BIOS battery for awhile and now it is mostly working running Windows 10.
However, there are a couple of things that are acting weird..
If I don't log in immediately on boot and the screen goes to sleep (black) it doesn't wake back up. If it blanks the screen after I log in then it wakes up OK.
The main problem I have is that the REBOOT option from windows never restarts. The Shutdown works correctly and the system will power on after shutdown, it just never works when taking the reboot option. This has a major side effect. You can't update the bios. It is currently on 1.2.21 and I'm trying to update it to 1.20. The BIOS update process REQUIRES the machine do a reboot. Even if you do it from the boot menu rather than from within windows. The power light never goes off and if I press the shift key, the keyboard will light up and then shut off after a time. I tried CTL-ALT-DEL and that lit the keyboard and the keyboard lights did not shut off..
If I long press the power button the machine will power off and it restarts normally.
This doesn't seem to be a windows thing, since the same thing happens from within the F12 boot menu.
Can anybody offer some suggestions on why the reboot process doesn't work correctly?
Thank you,
Bill

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Update: I was able to successfully update the BIOS which I had hoped would resolve the ACPI issues forcing the reset command to fail. It didn't fix the reboot problem.

System is out of warranty, and I'm not willing to spend hundreds on a laptop worth < $500.

I went through the BIOS Recovery procedure. I had to download the other BIOS file, not the EXE and put that on the stick, but the BIOS Recovery did not need a reboot before upgrading the BIOS.
Like I said, unfortunately that didn't fix my reboot issue.

Now you can plug the AC adaptor in as your "ON" / "Wake" switch

ojala me puedan apoyar gracias.
