Precision 5520 not powering on

Question

My precision 5520 won't power on. The power button flashes every 5 seconds. If I push it, it tries to power on as normal for about 1 second before it dies. Before it got to this point, it was on and working but the battery wasn't charging (and later that day it declined to its current state).

Try another adapter. Also try a reset by disconnecting the battery and adapter. Then press and hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try to boot. If that does not work then it is possible that the battery is dead and the adapter is not working causing the battery to die and preventing a boot.

I tried a reset. The laptop then worked! However, while booting up a screen displayed an alert 'The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge.' Indeed, the battery is not charging. I've tried another adapter as well and get the same message.

Hi, my 5520 did today as folows; when powering on date was to be reset, then I noticed that battery was empty and when plugged in, it kept 0% all the time. Did shut laptop and after that that 5520 does nothing when powering on.

Ok, I did open it and disconnected battery hoping it would start when plugged in, but it still does nothing.

So, does 5520 require some battery to be attached to start ?

(I could buy new battery but if this is up to mainboard so it would be waste of money...)
