Batteries wear out much sooner nowadays. The redesign of batteries for thinner, lighter laptops is the reason. But most computers from the last few years can run with just the adapter plugged in all the time and the battery removed. Laptop becomes a desktop replacement and must be treated like one.

If the battery is the original one on this 4 yr old model, it probably has failed. Read--
