Precision M6800 - Fingerprint sensor does not work

Hi all,

My M6800 is in excellent condition and still under warranty.
Since i acquired it, i had never used its fingerprint sensor.
The machine was came with win7 pro 64b preinstalled, but some time later i installed
also win10 pro 64b in a separate partition, making it a dual-boot system with win7/10.
I had no any issues in both OSes, until recently where i decided to make use of the
fingerprint sensor.
After several attempts, i can't make the sensor to react when i put my finger on it,
to enroll it as a login option. This behavior is the same in both OSes.
In few words, just nothing happens when i put and lift my finger on the sensor or swiping it.

I have all the appropriate device drivers installed and everything seems to be ok:

Thanks in advance for any help.

Same here.

AFAIK we're all in a catch 22, and Dell doesn't really give a flip.

You see, old Controlvault, which we have, interfaces with the OS via Dell Data Protection, a now as of Win 10 1709, deprecated piece of software.
But they never released newer drivers or firmware after they EOL'd Dell Data Protection.

New Controlvault, Controlvault 2, interfaces directly with the OS and has no need for the Dell middleware.

This is the model that Microsoft is pushing, and for good reason.

The best thing that I can think of to prove this theory would be to flash back both your UEFI and Controlvault to 2016 era firmware, install Win 10 from that era, and the DDP middleware.

I would try this, but as much as I'd like my once top tier M6800 to have a working fingerprint reader, I'd rather have modern Win 10.

tl;dr: Dell doesn't care that you bought a $6000 laptop built to run for ten years, as far as they're concerned, you should just buy a new one.

The fingerprint sensor still does not work in my case.

I don't believe this has to do with the operating system. As i mentioned with details in my first

post, my machine was factory preloaded with windows 7 pro 64b, so its drivers were of that era.

The funny thing for me is that the machine is still under warranty, because i bought the 2 year

warranty extension.

However, i don't know how to contact Dell, because their pages redirect me to Germany when

entering my service tag, but i don't understand German!

So, this is the warranty offered by Dell, even for very expensive products? Posting the problem

in forums, hoping that someone will know how to resolve it?

This topic is old, but I think it still helps someone.

I have encountered the above error and fixed the fingerprint recognition error on Dell Precision M6800 running Windows 10

1-1

1. Windows + R, type "services.msc" and Enter

- Double-click Credential Manager, Click Stop and continue to click Start

2. Windows + R, type "devmgmt.msc" and Enter

- Select Device Manager, Click Biometric devices, right-click Control Vault w / Fingerprint Touch Sensor, select Uninstall.

3. Download the Dell ControlVault Firmware Firmware here:
https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER03974196M/3/ControlVault_Setup_HTF2M_3.4.10.0_A41_ZPE.exe and start the Firmware update

- Download Driver Dell ControlVault Driver here: https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER03974224M/3/Security_Driver_HGX2G_WN64_3.4.8.14_A20.EXE and start installing Driver.

If it fails, Update Firmware in step 3 before and repeat from step 1.
