Dell 2155cdn - Error 016-317

Question

I have a Dell multifunction laser printer 2155cdn.  When turning on the printer, I immediately get the message, 'Restart Printer Contact Support If Message Returns 016-317.' After restarting the printer, the same message appears. Initially what happened is that the printer was actively printing something, only partially finished, then it started to print random nonsense characters for multiple pages. I let it go for 100 pages or so of printing nonsense until I realized that it probably would not stop, so I shut off the printer. After restarting the printer, I got the error message above.   I have not performed or attempted any firmware upgrades. I called tech support only to have them offer me costly on-site support services, despite my printer being under warranty. Searching around the forum, this error number has appeared on different printer models and has been associated with aborted firmware upgrades, unseated RAM, and/or problems with electronic subsystem (ESS) controller, but there is no mention of this error number for this printer model. My questions are: 1. What does this error message really mean? Can I do anything about it? 2. My warranty status states 'Next Business Day Support' Provider 'QLX.' What does this include? Should I have to pay more to have this problem fixed? Thanks!

Have you tried restarting the printer without any data cable connected? (ethernet and fax line)

Yes, I have disconnected basically everything except the power cable and restarted multiple times, still error 016-317. The problem started while I was using the wireless adapter (which I have since disconnected).

At this point, I am not even able to use the unit as a standalone copier.

BUCCINATOR, Have you resolved this problem yet? i have the same model with a nearly identacle error code and the exact same symptoms.just courious what fixed it???
