Dell 720 ink cartridge problem

I bought a Dell 720 printer last year which came with the small complementary ink cartridges, lovely printer and was working very well. The ink ran out in both cartridges so I spent almost £50 ordering a colour cartridge and a black cartridge from Dell.
Followed instructions to the letter to install the new cartridges which worked fine for the first few printing jobs (approx 3) then would start to print a job and would then stop part way through and a window popped up saying cartridge stall, so again I followed the instruction step by step. Tried to print again and came up with the same problems.  So I thought ok, I'll uninstall the printer and re install it, still no joy kept coming up with cartridge stall. I telephoned the dell support line, we went through the whole senario again taking out the cartridges and putting them back in, uninstalling the printer and re installing still got the same cartridge stall problem. The technitian put me on hold for a while then came back and said I had 2 options, to BUY new cartridges or they would replace the printer, I queried the fact that I had just spent almost £50 buying new cartridges from Dell and that it was obvious that the cartridges were faulty, why should I pay another £50 for yet more cartridges! his answer was ok we will replace the printer. The new printer arrived, (no cartridges with it) so I took the cartridges out of the other printer and placed them into the replacement printer and guess what! surprise surprise comes up with a cartridge stall.
Anyone got any ideas please?
