V715w loses communication with computer
Dell v715w printer constantly loses communication with computer. We are using USB cable, not WiFi. Have checked USB root hub power management and confirmed that the setting "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is NOT selected. Am running current software and firmware. Followed directions on the Dell Support Center which indicated the anti-virus software might be blocking certain .dll files. Have used three different anti-virus softwares - Norton, G-Data, and Avast - and on all three have tried shielding/preventing/omitting the folders containing the particular .dll files, with no improvement. Have never had this problem previously with any other brand of printer. Running Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Please advise.

MrBascombe,
Which virus program are you using now?
Make sure the adapter is turned off if you're using the usb cable. Turning the wireless adapter on/off in the Dell V715w Printer
I use the Wireless adapter in mine.
You did this tweak in the computers, correct?
Start, control panel, device manager.
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.

MrBascombe,
Please do NOT use the patch(printer cleanup utility) for the Dell 924 Printer. Each printer patch is specific for just that printer. The procedure to remove the Dell V715w Printer is...
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Start, control panel, programs and features, Dell V715w Printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Hi,
Welcome to the community,
first step do a default on the printer, switch off the printer and make sure that the printer is completely off with no sign of light on it, then press and hold down the start and cancel button together on the printer
after that switch on the printer while holding down the start and cancel button
hold down these two buttons till you get a language option to select on the printer panel, select your desired options:
Caution: if you have saved phone book in the printer, it is recommended to back up the info before doing the above step
then check the printer que and make sure that the que is empty and then go to device
manager and uninstall USB printing support from Universal Serial Bus controller
go to start menu and under start search box type the word User account and click on user accounts and disable the user account control
then restart the computer, unplug the USB cable for the printer when restarting the computer
then plug the USB cable back to the computer and wait for few minutes till the printer load back the drivers
then try to print

Thanks! Of the several responses to my problem, this was the one that worked. It's been two weeks and the computer and printer have never lost communication. I appreciate the help. We were about ready to send the printer to the recycling pile. -Tim J.
