Microsoft Paint - unopenable - tried reinstalling

Question

Hi, was wondering if anyone has had any problems with MS paint on Windows XP. As soon as i click on the icon to open it i get a 'Microsoft Paint has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience' error message. The program does not even show a hint of opening, just goes straight to the error message. Error signature: AppName: Mspaint.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.1106 ModName: mfc42u.dll ModVer: 6.0.8665.0 Offset: 00017103 I have browsed the forums and seen most replies equivalent to uninstalling MSpaint in the Windows Components section and then reinstalling. I have even tried deleting the entire accessories folder. One strange thing though is upon reinstallation the computer does not ask for me to put in the windows software CD, so it sounds like it is hoarding the corrupted program somewhere and just calling it back up when i ask for it again. I can post the technical info about the error report if someone has that much tape holding their glasses together and can decifer two thousand zeros. Hey-

I have the same exact problem as you. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Paint, and it did not work for me either. I tried calling Dell Tech Support, and that proved thoroughly useless, unfortunately. The guy had no clue what to do. System Restore also does not work. I even completely reinstalled Windows XP, and, surprise surprise, it didn't work.

As far as taking a screenshot, all you have to do is press the 'Print Screen' button on your keyboard. Then open a graphics editing program...such as...MS Paint...and yeah that won't work...So open any other Graphics editing program and go to 'Edit, Paste' and it will paste the Screen Shot.

Should you happen to find a solution to this problem with MS Paint, PLEASE let me know, and I will do the same for you if I find out how to fix it!

Dude,
I didn't want to do it, but i started using adobe photoshop (which came with my computer).
It is a little confusing at first, but at this point i would not go back to MS paint if you paid me.
MS paint is barbaric in comparison to photoshop.
