Microsoft Word(selection locked)

If you can start a new document but not edit an old one, the old document is locked by the owner or is in use by another user. Not sure what version you are asking about, but look up Lock or Unlock in Word's help. You'll find this article and other info. If you cannot start a new document, Office might not have been activated or the trial time has run out.

I'm unable to work on a new document as well as unable to edit an old one.  The program has not yet been activated, however it will not allow me to because it will not accept a confirmation number.  Where should I find the confirmation number?  There isn't one in with the disc.
