Mail Profiles
When I view the mail profiles on my emailxtender server through the mail config under outlook there are literally hundreds in the list. They are not real mail accounts and they have names like exMail9370, exExtract-Latin2-1250-5112, etc. Can I remove all of these profiles from the list to clean things up or do they have to stay in there? I am running EmailXtender 4.81 SP1 with Exchange 2007 SP1.
Thanks
Thanks

Exchange 2003.
I found one support article or maybe a forum item that said --stop EX services, delete these Outlook / MAPI profiles, start services---.
What is the root cause ?
Another article seemed to indicate it was processing multi-language emails.
Thanks.

These are fairly common with EmailXtender, most of the profiles clear themselves up in versions 4.81.x
They are used for each codepage that EX comes accross and has to handle.
The easiest way to clear them down, is stop the EX services, make sure Outlook.exe is not running on the EX server, then delete the following keys :
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles]
Once they have gone, recreate the Profiles key

I have "cleared out" the MAPI profiles at customers a couple of time. Expect profile errors afterwards in the OTG log, since EX assumes these profiles available for different languages. They are getting recreated faster than you'd like. Speaking with support about this, one person suggested leaving them, as some of them are required temporarily for the processing of messages.
I would rather see them clear automatically as well, but most likely not with the 4.x version.
Just my 5 cent. Hope that helps nevertheless.
Best regards,
Jochen.

Option 1.
- Stop EmailXtender Services.
- Control Panel - mail - show profiles
- remove profiles:
* Examples:
Ex8837
Ex9050
exMail10385
exMail10389
exExtract-Arabic-1256
exExtract-ChineseSimplified-936
exExtract-Hebrew-1255
Exjournal
exJournal-Arabic-1256
You don't remove emailXtender Profile. If you remove, you can to create it after.
- Restart EmailXtender Services.
Option 2.
- Stop EmailXtender Service
- Run regedit.
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows NT -> Current Version -> Windows Messaging Subsystem -> Profiles.
- Backup from this key.
- Under the Profiles registry key highlight the top most orphaned temporary MAPI profile prefaced with an 'ex' or 'EX' and click the Delete keyboard button
Be careful not to inadvertently delete needed MAPI profiles (e.g. EmailXtender service account, Journaling mailbox MAPI profiles).
- Restart EmailXtender Services.

Removed all of the "Bogus" profiles and kept the good one.
They always come back.
I've learned to except it that they are always going to be there.
Is this thread saying that once they are deleted they will not return?
They do (for me).

We have a centralized Exchange 2003 environment with many languages. Hundreds if not thousands of profiles were created daily. I was told about the method for removing the registry entries related to the profiles by more than two EMC support engineers. The thing that bothered me was one of them insisted the services had to be stopped, and another said that stopping services was not necessary. I chose to use the GUI to remove them. What I do is go into Control Panel > Mail icon > Show profiles, and remove all but the primary legato mail profile (for me, called Outlook). I paid for a program called HOT KEYBOARD to do the repetitive task of removing the profiles. So, when I hit a hot key, it removes up to 500 profiles automatically. I just watch closely to make sure it doesn't remove the primary profile.
I do know that if I leave the profiles there, when it reaches in the 30,000's , users will begin to complain about not retrieving archived mail. This is probably some type of Mail profile limit in Windows Server.
I opened case 24306316 on 6/24/2008 regarding the mail profile creation because I do not believe this problem should exist. Repetitive correction tasks should be repaired immediately and be at the top of the pile for inclusion in future releases.
The case was closed when build 655 was released because this was a known fix in that release. We upgraded a week ago but still experience this profile creation. I have yet to determine if it is to a lesser degree than before. I re-opened the case. If i have any other useful information from the case, i will post it here.
Thanks
